The Greatest Game

Featuring: Elisa
The girls have been here before; the field where they suffered their first defeat of the year against the team from Arcadia. It’s not a pleasant memory, but one that rekindles their passion to win and the respect that was already theirs. The Swallows Classic, one where the Midnight Express had not previously competed, was certain to be a part of their collection of golds.

The tournament’s preliminary game started with the team from Laguna Niguel. It was an afternoon where during the first few second of the game the oppponents scored a header goal from a corner kick. The Midnight Express were caught by surprise as this is the only team to score in such a beautiful manner against them. The skills and resolve of the opposing team showed early in the game. They made their intentions with clarity to the girls of Walnut; they wanted this game. To encroach the pride of a champion is a dangerous proposition. In the succeeding plays, our athletes showed what they were made of. They decided that the first goal by the opponents would only bring the best out of them and the tenacity that they could inflict. The level of play was at its apex. Their pride was at stake and they didn’t want to risk to bringing home their second defeat on the same field. The attacks on the opponent’s goal came incessantly. Their was the corner kick from the side by Elisa which flew and found its target at the middle- Janessa for the first and tying goal of the game (1-1). The match went on where both side’s spectators witnessed one of the best game of the year. The Laguna Niguel girls faltered in the box and Walnut was awarded a penalty kick. Elisa was choosen to do the favor. With all her girlish smile, she built confidence inside, and unleashed the stored energies and propelled the ball towards the goal. The defending goalie had guessed right where the ball was going, but the impact was too strong and the two hands were not sufficient to stop Elisa in scoring. The Midnight Express were ahead but they have to finish and fast. They mounted their own attacks but were answered by good defensive moves by the opposing team. The nail would have to be placed in the coffin immediately to secure a win. Their effort came to fruition when Katie hurled one from the middle and ended the greatest game of the year 3-2. The 9th gold was on sight from here on.

The Walnut Midnight Express keeps on marching pass their adversaries. With their domination apparent, they beat San Juan Capistrano (3-1), Diamond Bar (2-0), So. Pasadena (6-0) during the semi-finals and a second beating of San Juan Capistrano during the championship game with a 3-0 win.
