Threepeat? seems impossible!!
The defense held true. The offense explosive. The mood
tremendous, full of expectations. The determination never ran short. The
refrigerator was closed as expected. And the cheers quantified good plays.
This sums up the Arrowhead Cup.
The 1st day of the tournament started rather chilly. The
MidnightExpress initiated a much needed warm up routine after 2 weeks of idleness due to
the rainy days. The game against Tulare never shifted to third gear and the Express
settled 1 point short of a perfect score of 10, ending it in a 2-0 win. The
afternoon game against the lasses of Ontario reminded us of the Sta.Barbara team of the
previous championship, balls flying forcing the Walnut girls to scamper for defence.
The air was filled with silence on the Express side after the first goal was
registered by Ontario. The Walnut Midnight Express left their choo-choo train and
boarded a raging and stomping locomotive. Holding true to their name, the defense of
Christie H. and Christina C. tightened and the offense went off like the true steel
locomotive moving everything away out of its way for a victory. The game ended in a 1-1
tie.
The following day started with vague anticipation but clearly-the Midnight Express had to
take care their business first, that is, to topple Pacific Palisades with a convincing win
to edge Ontario for the pool first placer. The girls did it with a 2-0 win in a
largely one sided game.
The championship shaped up to be between Walnut and Chino. Chino being a taller team
made the Walnut Midnight Express focused and determined to end the rainy afternoon on a
high note. At first, the two teams toyed with each other until Andrea set the
serious tone of the Midnight Express and sending the ball pass the side of the Chino's
goalie from the left. With Walnut leading 1-0 in the first half, they went on with
Janessa's goal from the middle and icing by Renay. With goalie Christina C. stedfast
defence adding to the unsurmountable burden on the Chino belles to produce a solitary
goal-against 3 of the Walnut Midnight Express. The rest is history and yet history itself
is in the making-
