Hear we go again! It was just a while after our trip to Tahoe and the 1998 AYSO season where the girls faced each other that the 1999 Midnight Express have reprised  the legacy of  the 1998 Walnut Aftershocks.  They started their season with a big bang, winning the gold at the 1999 Coyote Classic Tournament in Victorville, California. Talk about a big bang, Tiffany started the weekend with four consecutive goals ushering in the tournament with a win (5-0) against Sherman Oaks. The only challenge came in the second game against Quartz Hill where the Express settled for a 1-1 tie breaking Christina’s 7 consecutive shutout games. Lauren kicked the lone goal to save the Express’ pride on this day. The tournament went on during the Valentine's Day, a great day for some lovin’, but the Express meant business. The first game on hand was against Simi Valley which featured some spectacular plays and defense. There was the opening goal by Tiffany, followed by the drive of Irene and Jennifer developing their killer instinct this season at the forward position. Then there was the spectacular "fake-block" by Jennifer letting Vivi get a point from beyond the 18 yard line, capping the semi to a final game with Quartz Hill, and closure to the tie the day before. Outstanding defense of Katie, Theresa, Christine and the fullbacks with Christie H. sweeping kept the opponents defending their field the whole tournament. Express’ offense is AWESOME.

The wind was blowing hard during the finals. Everyone’s waiting for a decisive game against Quartz Hill where Lauren was the only one who manage to score. The setting was perfect, we were downwind, hoping the refs wouldn’t hear us (Kevin, myself and Frank and of course, the moms yelled too). The Express battled the first 3 quarters to a 0-0 score until Vivi loosened the "nut from the bolt" with a score that made all the parents jump  high and greased the Express to a commanding offense in the fourth. To cap it all, Janessa kicked two flyers above the goal plus 1 in it for a 2 zip score. Way to go Express. Max says- CONGRATULATIONS !!!!

Manny, get well soon ! Tif got the gold for you. I asked her to win the final game for you and she answered, and I qoute, "Yes, the gold!"
