On the Road to a Second 3-peat The atmosphere at the Ranch was festive. The anticipations were high among individuals involved. The parking spaces were few but the park itself is great. There were the cheers of victories and sounds of frustrations. The midnight Express side was not exempted. The girls were rather slow picking up from were they left off from the last Area Tournament of a week ago. The first match featured Walnut against Roland Heights. The match was highlighted by a solo goal by Jennifer and couple of life saving plays of goalie Christina "Keeks". Just when it felt like they came out of the duldrum of the cold and gloomy days of the weekend and winning their second game against Lancaster (4-0), they settled for another 1-0 decision against West LA-again on a solo goal by Jennifer and life saving plays of Christina "Keeks"-again? Being tired of redundancy, they mapped their travel and made their stop with stubborn and defensive Downey a 3-0 game after a sleepy 1st half. On a clear glimpse of the gold at the end of the day, the Midnight Express went to work, that is, HARD. Their hearts were challenged, their abilities tested, and their enthusiasm to save the day for the MOMs was in their mind. Happy Mother's Day Moms!!!! The girls started their championship game against Upland with a flower tribute for their respective moms. The cheers was on and the drive for the fifth gold was on hand. As expected, the defending champions gave a barage of attempts to the goal. Upland goalie was in for a good work-out but the locals didn't connect until the second half. "Viva la Vivi" led the attack from the left front, giving the much taller opponents some headaches that proved to be fatal. The persistence of Renay, Lauren and Andrea gave the much needed boost and opportunities. The gate was opened in the 3rd quarter, flash flood warning sounded-the seriousness in their eyes apparent- the Midnight Express went on to score 4 more goals. Coaches John and Lou went for the kill putting Theresa and Tiff upfront in the 4th. The icing to the cake was in place by sound defensive moves by "Keeks". Then the game's decided. The trophy awarded. The medals hanged. The pictures were taken but the clean up at the Ranch. And alas, the rest is history. Thanks you girls for a nice weekend.
