Ice-Cooled
Buckets and the Gold The first heat of summer comes upon the girls of Walnut playing in the scorching field of the inland empire. Unassuming as they are, they passed by the girls of South Pasadena in a decisive win of 5-1. The game featured some excellent plays that kept the girls from west of us watching, but with a scary blow as Renay figured in a collision. As tough as she is, Renay has to watch the remainder of the game at the sideline. She missed the afternoon game against Palmdale were the locals had won their way to a 3-0 score. The next day was nothing but quite a relaxing day for the families of the Midnight Express Just likened to their trip to the City of Redlands that morning, Walnut has to pass by Fontana and San Bernardino to reach the ultimate destination (Redlands where the gold is). The train stopped in Fontana (2-0) and then San Bernardino (3-0), and the final trip of the Midnight Express was the goldmine of Redlands. Seemingly, the trip seemed to be uneventful. A pact between the players and the coaches was on hand to inspire the girls. Should they ever score 3 goals before the final whistles blown, the coaches will have to suffer the bone-chilling buckets of iced water at the end of the game. The girls dominated but manage to score a lonesome fair of (2-0) goals the whole game. But down to the final seconds of the game, as the center ref raised his arm to blow his whistle- the ball was up flying from far beyond the box and which sole target was the mouth of the goal. The 3rd goal was scored courtesy of Lauren, keeping the promise for the 8th gold and winning the pact and earned the right to give the coaches their needed bath. Larry and Tom joined in and gave Lou his shower of ice cooled water. The scorching heat of the afternoon is over, cooled down by ice buckets and the victory of the day. The trip back home is nothing but routine, yet the achievements and memories are once embedded in every girls life. |
